May gives us very little down time We start the month with the Met Gala and then we almost immediately go into the Cannes Film Festival. I am super excited about this years edition and there will be lots of wishes to see. As the Cannes Film Festival gears up for another spectacular year of cinematic excellence, all eyes are on the esteemed members of the International Feature Film Jury. Led by the illustrious Greta Gerwig, alongside luminaries including Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, and Nadine Labaki, anticipation is high not only for their discerning film selections but also for their sartorial choices. To kick off the wishes for this years festival I had to start with the jury photocall. It’s the first event of the festival where the president and members of the jury gather on the famed photocall balcony overlooking the French Riviera and pose for the photographers before heading into their press conference ahead of the Opening Ceremony and the first premiere of the festival.

Greta Gerwig’s appointment as the president of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival International Feature Film Jury is a reflection of her immense talent, impact, and influence in the world of cinema. As an acclaimed writer, director, and actress, Greta has made significant contributions to the film industry with her unique storytelling, nuanced characters, and powerful narratives. Her films, including obviously Barbie but also Lady Bird and her adaptation of Little Women, have received widespread critical acclaim and numerous accolades, showcasing her remarkable directorial vision and storytelling prowess. I am very excited to see what she and stylist Karla Welch will cook up for this run, starting with the Jury Photocall. Photocalls are definitely more casual as they happen in the morning, but in Cannes that doesn’t mean that gowns or couture are off the table. I knew I wanted couture for Greta. I mean how major of a moment would it be to see madame la présidente standing there overlooking the French Riviera wearing this blue and white sailor striped Maison Margiela Spring 2024 Couture ensemble which features a sleeveless button up top, and matching pleated a-line skirt. Now the runway version had a sleeveless turtleneck and gloves styled with it and as much as I love all of the runway styling I would leave them behind to make this a breath of fresh air. I would style the look with loose center parted waves, white Malone Souliers ‘Maureen’ 100mm lace mesh pointed toe pumps, and Pomellato jewels including ‘Together’ double hoop earrings set in 18k rhodium-plated white gold detailed with sapphires, a white diamond detailed ‘Nudo’ cuff bracelet set in 18k rhodium-plated white gold, a ‘Together’ double hoop ring set in 18k rhodium-plated white gold detailed with sapphires, and a milky quartz and diamond ‘Nudo’ ring to kick off Greta’s Cannes run in high style.

Lily Gladstone’s presence on the 2024 Cannes Film Festival International Feature Film Jury is a testament to her exceptional talent and contribution to the world of cinema. As an accomplished actress known for her captivating performances in critically acclaimed films, including Certain Women and First Cow, Lily brings a wealth of experience and insight to the jury panel. Her Cannes ethos comes as she launched her Oscar run for Killers of the Flower Moon last year at the festival. It was the hit that launched her to super stardom. Her commitment to authenticity and emotional depth in her roles reflects her dedication to the craft of filmmaking, making her a valuable voice in evaluating and celebrating the artistry of international cinema. Lily’s inclusion on the jury not only highlights her own achievements but also underscores the festival’s commitment to diversity and recognizing talent from a variety of backgrounds. Now let’s talk fashion. Lily is a hard one for me I still don’t know how to pick the right looks for her. She has a wide ranging style and I am interested in seeing what she and stylist Jason Bolden cook up for her over the course of the festival. Like Greta I also went with couture for Lily picking this white cotton and tulle Jean Paul Gaultier by Simone Rocha oversized shirt dress with a layered asymmetrical skirt and some crystal brooch details. I absolutely think this would be a major moment for her to wear for the first big moment the jury gets at the festival. It is light and airy perfect for the setting overlooking the French Riviera. To really make this look perfect I would style it with a sleek center parted low ponytail, kohl rimmed eyes, pink lips, a pair of white embellished Jennifer Chamandi pointed toe pumps, two takes of Bulgari ‘Fiorever’ rings, and a pair of stunning metal and bead earrings from native jewelry designer Jennifer Younger. I will definitely be adding details of Native fashion through jewelry into all my picks for Lily as that has become a signature of her style.

French actress Eva Green is a Cannes regular and I am ready to see what she will cook up for a run as a member of the International Feature Film Jury. Renowned for her captivating performances, Eva has mesmerized audiences with her depth, intensity, and versatility on screen. Her ability to embody a wide range of characters with unparalleled skill and authenticity has earned her widespread acclaim and numerous accolades throughout her career. Her style is very film nior and I expect she will serve up chic, dark, goth punk glam with her looks at this years festival. To kick off her Cannes run I would love to see Eva give us sexy simplicity with this black wrap style Alexis Mabille Fall 2024 RTW jumpsuit with batwing sleeves, tapered leg trousers, and a braided macrame belt. It definitely gives classic sexy glamour and I feel like it would be a perfect look for Eva to bring to the most casual event of the Cannes Film Festival. As far as the styling I would pair this jumpsuit with a side parted wash and done wave shoulder length bob, brown smokey eyes, taupe lips, a pair of black satin Roger Vivier ‘RV Bouquet’ pointed toe floral crystal buckle pumps, a simple pair of Cartier diamond stud earrings, and a statement Cartier diamond, onyx, and emerald cocktail ring to add a pop of color to the look to really make this a super chic photocall moment.

Awarded with the Jury Prize at Cannes 2018 with her powerful film Capernaum, that also went on to be nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Foreign Film, Nadine Labaki has been weaving a story with the festival for many years. After signing award-winning commercials and music videos, she took part in the Résidence de la Cinéfondation in 2004 to write and develop Caramel, her first feature film, a joyfully impertinent ode to female solidarity and the biggest success of Lebanese cinema abroad. Unlike previous juries, which may have been predominantly composed of individuals from traditional film backgrounds, Nadine Labaki’s inclusion highlights the festival’s recognition of filmmakers who challenge conventions and push boundaries. Her groundbreaking work has earned international acclaim for its poignant storytelling and unflinching exploration of social issues. When it comes to dressing for the red carpet Nadine typically goes to the wealth of amazing Lebanese designers who know oh so well how to dress woman. For the jury photocall I would love to see Nadine give this turquoise Elie Saab Spring 2024 RTW ensemble with a short batwing sleeve trench inspired jacket and fit and flare pants to really make a bold bright and breezy moment for Nadine to wear overlooking the most elegant breezy beach scene. It creates a very bold cool moment which is a bit of a departure for Nadine who usually wears more darker colors and whites and beiges. She isn’t one to really embrace a whole lot of color, and definitely not this kind of color. I would continue to push the boundaries of Nadine’s style adding a pair of bright goldenrod yellow suede Gianvito Rossi pointed toe pumps to the look. Soft waves with her hair worn down, soft taupe smokey eyes, light pink lips, a pair of rose gold set Chopard ‘L’Heure du Diamant’ drop earrings made of marquise cut earrings, and a rose gold Chopard ‘Happy Diamonds x Mariah Carey’ diamond flower ring would then complete this beautiful look.

As the Cannes Film Festival International Feature Film Jury prepares to take center stage, one thing is certain: their impeccable fashion choices will undoubtedly set the tone for the festival’s dazzling array of red carpet moments, leaving a lasting impression on audiences and fashion enthusiasts alike.
