Hungarian director Ildiko Enyedi’s The Story Of My Wife held Cannes promise, in part thanks to its French cast members Lea Seydoux and Louis Garrel. The Cannes habitués star alongside Dutch actor Gijs Naber in this adaptation of Marin Fust’s eponymous 1942 literary classic about a Dutch sea captain obsessed with the idea that his flirtatious French wife has been unfaithful. Enyedi, who won Berlin’s Golden Bear for On Body And Soul in 2017, last screened a film at Cannes some 30 years ago when she won the Caméra d’Or for My 20th Century. So with the push for a more balanced selection of male and female directors I would have loved to see The Story of My Wife screen at this years festival. Lea Seydoux has been in Cannes screening films, winning awards, and serving on the jury for almost two decades now. The French actress has always been one who has intrigued me on the red carpet. While I complain often about Louis Vuitton ambassadors and there red carpet looks I have to admit that Lea is one of the more successful spokemodels for the French luxury label. That being said I still didn’t pick two head to toe Louis Vuitton looks for Lea to wear to promote The Story of My Wife. Instead for the photocall I picked this cream Lanvin Fall 2020 RTW dress which gives modern 20’s meets 70’s vibes. The dress features a thin brand signature print throughout, intricate beading on the bodice and neck, long poet sleeves with ruffled cuffs, a drop waist, and tiered pleated mini skirt and I think Lea would make it an effortlessly glamorous moment for a Cannes Film Festival photocall. Soft retro waves, defined eyes, bright pink lips, and a pair of black Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ ankle strap pointed toe leather pumps would definitely make this a superb fashion moment for Lea. Now for the premiere I went for sleek sexy glamour with a custom Louis Vuitton long sleeve column inspired by this white and black bustier detail dress. The dress found in the LV online shop is super sexy despite the fact it is completely covered. Taking this mock neck dress with a long zipper down the back and making it into a custom gown completely covered in liquid sequins would definitely make this a major modern moment for Lea especially styled with a sleek side parted low bun updo, defined eyes, bold red lips, a pair of white leather Louis Vuitton ‘Call Back’ ankle strap sandals, and a pop of color and femininity via Chopard Red Carpet Collection 2020 “Orchids” drop earrings earrings set with natural-looking sapphire petals and tsavorite buds reveal four black cabochon-cut opals. My second wish for Aja Naomi King following the major Nicolas Jebran gown I picked the other day is all about COLOR. I have been obsessed with this sunset orange Zuhair Murad Fall 2019 Couture draped gown which features an asymmetrical one shoulder neckline, ostrich feather trim, and a cape since it was first presented. Orange isn’t a color we often see on the red carpet which would have made this a super special moment for Aja to bring to life in Cannes. I wanted to really make sure that the looks I’ve picked for Aja screamed glamour, but in a new major manner. I would love to this gown styled with a sleek updo, smokey eyes, nude pink lips, a pair of simple orange Jimmy Choo ‘Minny’ ankle strap sandals, and the sunset in earrings via sleek Chopard ruby, yellow sapphire, and diamond wreath earrings. It definitely would have made sure that Aja delivered nothing but bold, statement glamour in Cannes. I’ve mentioned that I always appreciate that Liya Kebede goes left of traditional for her red carpet looks. I would have loved seeing Liya give relaxed glamour wearing this black silk draped Stella McCartney Fall 2020 loose fit pajama set which features a cowl neck, oversized cuffs, crystal beaded appliques throughout, a paper bag waist, and wide leg trousers. There really isn’t anyone but Liya who I would even remotely think would be able to make this look work on the Cannes red carpet. With all that fabric work really has to be put in to be seen through all the yardage and I know that Liya would rock this look effortlessly. Her signature washed and dried vibe curls, barely there makeup, black Aquazzura ‘Panthere’ pointed toe cutout t-bar ankle strap pumps, and a pair of edgy glam Chopard Loves Rihanna Collection white diamond earcuffs would definitely have ensured Liya just oozed effortless glamour. I also went left of traditional Cannes gowns for Korean supermodel Soo Joo Park. The model loves to bring the unexpected to the red carpet. As I was looking for something for her to wear in Cannes to promote L’Oreal this year I saw this black silk faille Oscar de la Renta Fall 2020 RTW cocktail dress which features an asymmetrical one shoulder neckline, intricate voluminous origami draping, an asymmetrical hem, and exposed corsetry and I just thought of how cool a moment it would be. To pull off a cocktail dress as a major moment on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet you have to just ooze cool girl glam and I really do believe that Soo Joo has that vibe. To make this look major from head to toe I would style this look with a sleek center parted updo, smokey winged eyes, deep ruby red lips, a pair of black chiffon and satin Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Etoile’ big bow and crystal detail ankle strap sandals, and a selection of Messika High Jewelry including ‘Sirenetta’ asymmetrical white diamond pendant fringe earrings and a statement ‘Shirin’ white diamond art deco inspired cuff bracelet.
