New York Fashion Week has come and gone and I was over the moon with all of the amazing red carpet moments that walked the runways. I saved over 1,200 runway looks from the runways of NYFW so I decided to change up how I cover the collections this year. Usually I do reviews of my favorite collections and then at the end of the season do a round up of my 20 favorite looks from everything. Since the runways of NYFW were so good, and I decided not to write reviews this season, I thought I would do a round up list for each of the major fashion weeks. So here we go with my 20 favorite looks from the Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear runways at New York Fashion Week.
Alexander Wang: #WangFest shut down a street in Brooklyn and left guests including Kim Kardashian standing in stilettos behind metal barriers waiting for the show to start for over an hour. The models showed up on a bus. Overall the collection was one of Wang’s best in recent years. It was a mediation on past collections, a returning to the roots of sorts. The show opened with new “it” model Kaia Gerber wearing a white draped jersey mini dress and I was taken from there. The collection was great, that white cocktail dress really spoke to me. I could definitely see Ciara wearing it for a music party or on the sidewalk runway heading into a dramatic dinner.
Badgley Mischka: Badgley Mischka took some time off from showing runway shows and were back on the circuit in February. I have been doing runway wish lists for Red Carpet Fashion Awards and we had defined a list of shows that I was going to cover for them. Badgley Mischka wasn’t on the list of shows, but I was enamored with the collection. I picked a whole wide range of women to wear this collection and Jane Fonda was the first person I thought of while I was watching this show. I saw this gold sequin long sleeve column gown with a beaded waist and a plunging neckline and immediately thought of how amazing she would look in it. Sexy yet glamorous, as is Jane’s mo.
Brandon Maxwell: Each season I can always count on Brandon Maxwell to deliver simple modern glamour to the runways. I always love seeing him on the runways and the red carpet and I definitely want to see his Spring 2018 RTW collection on the red carpet. What I think enamored me most about this collection was that we finally saw Brandon embrace color. I think the most shocking thing was that I picked this dramatic white menswear inspired top paired with acid wash blue crocodile leather pants screams Rihanna to me. Usually when it comes to Brandon’s shows my favorite look usually screams Lady Gaga, but Rihanna would definitely rock this look. It would probably be a street style look with some great strappy sandals, but I think that it would be a major moment.
Brock Collection: Last fall Brock Collection was awarded the top prize at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award and since then we have really seen the brand take off on the red carpet. So many red carpet moments have happened since then and I cannot wait to see what the spring collection will have in store. I loved so many of the chic cocktail and casual moments that walked the leaf strewn runway at this show. Kate Bosworth has been a major fan of this brand and I could definitely see her wearing this beautiful rose red strapless floral embroidered bustier cocktail dress.
Calvin Klein: When at Dior I was up and down with my feelings of Raf Simons, but now that he is the creative director of Calvin Klein I am firmly in love with it. His spring line was a meditation on the American dream and American horror stories resulted in a collection that had my jaw dropped from beginning to end. I was on a high after watching this show for two days. I hadn’t gasped out loud watching something come down a runway in a really long time. When I saw this red fringe cocktail dress step onto the runway I gave that loud audible gasp and it solidified my love for this collection. As the model walked the runway all I could do was picture Zoe Saldana working the red carpet wearing this dress.
Carolina Herrera: I watched the Carolina Herrera show live and I have to say she did not work to reinvent the wheel this season. It was like the modern woman took a trip to 1984 and came back, but honestly with the 80’s revival we are seeing on the spring runways it worked. There was nothing that really screamed wear me on the red carpet until this sunflower yellow ballgown which features blue strap detail on the back came down the runway. Bright color and Lupita Nyong’o go hand in hand and I think that she would shut down any red carpet wearing this gown.
Delpozo: The Delpozo collection is always a highlight of New York Fashion Week. Each season Josep Font delivers gorgeous avant garde spins on volume that always feel fresh and new. This season to the sound of live big band music models walked the runway wearing bold color and even bolder shapes. My favorite look was a neon abstract print cocktail dress which features a big flower on the check and a high low ruffled hem. The dress will definitely make a major moment on the red carpet and fresh face Zoey Deutch would totally own this dress. The color and shape could be overpowering on most, but I think that it would definitely be Zoey wearing the dress and not the other way around.
Elizabeth Kennedy: It was last January at the Golden Globes where she dressed a nominee, Maura Tierney, and a presenter, Laverne Cox, that we got our first taste of Elizabeth Kennedy on the red carpet. Since then we have seen her signature dramatic glamour on the red carpet at all the major events from the Oscars to the Met Gala. While it may not seem like it from this list NYFW seemed to be less gowns than normal so when I saw the Elizabeth Kennedy lookbook that was wall to wall cocktail dresses and gowns I was in love. This silver and Wedgewood blue sequin and beaded reminded me of the gorgeous Cindy Crawford who was on my mind all week as we saw her daughter on all of the top runways. 
Gabriela Hearst: I won’t begin to say that I was a big fan of the Gabriela Hearst Spring 2018 RTW collection because that would be a lie. The brand has become a favorite of it girls like Dakota Johnson, Solange, and Laura Dern, but there was very little from the collection that I want to see on the red carpet. I really loved this ivory one sleeved dress which features stone embellishment at the neckline and it was one of the few looks from the collection that I really want to see on the red carpet. Someone like Uma Thurman would definitely be able to make this gown come to life on the red carpet.
Jason Wu: In his spring show Jason Wu only showed three gowns. I used to love seeing all of the gorgeous gowns that came down Jason’s runway and I wish many major custom gowns inspired from this collection. There were beautiful florals mixed with plaids in this collection and it made the perfect mesh of menswear meets femininity. The nude pleated gown would look lovely on supermodel and muse Lily Aldridge.
Marc Jacobs: As per NYFW tradition Marc Jacobs closed the week off with a major show. The models walked around the Park Avenue Amory in complete silence. Guests were seated in a front row only manner and models showcased a mediation on some of Marc’s greatest past successes. We saw a lot of designers doing that this season. The more I think about it the more I like Marc’s collection after not being it’s biggest fan at first. I know it’s a stretch but I would totally love to see Natalie Portman take a night off of her Dior obligations sometime and wear this hot pink strapless embellished gown.
Marchesa: This season Marchesa was a lot of tacky florals and silk taffeta, but thankfully there were a few saving graces. I am hoping the women who wear this collection on the red carpet turn it into something absolutely amazing. I was taken with this black lacquered boned strapless sculptural gown which features light pink 3D floral embellishments so I really want to see this gown on a red carpet. I went down a gambit of stars but it was honestly Bella Hadid who was the first person to pop into my head when I thought of who would really deliver it as a major moment on the red carpet. 
Monse: Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim really owned New York Fashion week this season. Their basketball, sportswear inspired collection for their own label Monse was one of my favorite overall collections of the whole week. The front row consisted of everyone from Kate Bosworth and the Hilton Sisters to Minnie Mouse and Nicki Minaj, that latter of whom held the show for almost 45 minutes. The reconstructed and reconstructed motif of Monse was definitely a collection that will appeal to a wide array of celebrities to wear on the red carpet and on the sidewalk runway. Readers will note that they have already seen this midnight blue sequin strapless gown with white star embellishments and car wash pleats on my Emmy wish list for Kirsten Wiig, but it is really Taylor Swift that I want to see rocking this gown on a red carpet.
Naeem Khan: Like so many of the shows that I have mentioned this season I was not in love with the Naeem Khan Spring 2018 RTW collection, but there were some amazing pieces. As I watched the models walk the runway I kept thinking over and over that there was very little “new” in Naeem’s collection. I felt like I had seen many of the pieces in his past collections in different colors or just worked slightly differently. I was really taken with this strapless black tea length gown which looks like the model rolled around in mulitcolor confetti, which on paper sounds like a disaster, but up close it was absolutely beautiful. A true style star like Emmy Rossum would definitely sell this gown.
Oscar de la Renta: Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim also killed the runways of NYFW with their sophomore collection as creative directors for Oscar de la Renta. The collection was the perfect embodiment of the modern Oscar de la Renta girl. The models descended an escalator and walked around a stark gallery to an intimate selection of guests. There are at least 35 viable red carpet options and it was hard for me to pick just one. I have already used two of them in wishes for Kiernan Shipka and Sarah Paulson to wear for the Emmy Awards. Ana de Armas was front row at the show, with Nicki Minaj and the Hilton’s, and with her promo tour for Blade Runner 2049 coming up I think that this blue to white ombre tulle strapless cocktail dress would be a perfect option for her to wear for a premiere.
Prabal Gurung: Getting political at New York Fashion Week was definitely a major trend. Prabal Gurung did it in a very obvious way with the soundtrack kicking off his show saying “I am not accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept. We are stronger in colors.” This was an obvious nod to the current political climate that we are living in in the United States. That exploded into a collection that was chock full of bold colors from electric blue to lemon yellow to emerald green and hot pink. Prabal also showcased a diverse selection of models from all different ethnicity, sizes, and genders. It was one of the most inclusive shows I have ever seen at a major fashion week. This two tone barbie and magenta pink draped halter gown came wafting down the runway and I fell in love with it. It was one of those moments that took my breath away and immediately made me start to dream. Several names started spinning about who should wear this gown and I think that Gal Gadot should snatch it up for her upcoming promo tour for Justice League. 
Rosie Assoulin: One brand that the cool fashion girls look to each and every season is Rosie Assoulin and they should not have been disappointed with what she showed them. Wearable volume is Rosie’s signature, but she also showed some variation on that for her spring collection. Soft macaroon color palette just really elevated the glamour of this collection. I went with this soft “millennial pink” long sleeve dress/top with seashell embellishments on the collar and sleeve paired over white pants as my favorite look because it was something different for Rosie. I think that is why I also picked Jennifer Lopez to wear it either on a red carpet or in her personal wardrobe. It would add a chic change of pace to the sexy fitted dresses we are used to seeing Jennifer always wearing on the red carpet.
Sally LaPointe: I have always been a fan of Sally LaPointe on the runways and it seems like over the last year she has gotten a lot of love from celebrities on and off of the red carpet. The brand just oozes effortless glamour and her spring collection showcased that perfectly. My favorite look, and the collection overall honestly, didn’t really scream spring especially this black off the shoulder knit sweater and emerald green beaded pencil skirt, but that really didn’t mean anything to me. The look is chic and will make for a perfect look for someone like Zoe Saldana to wear in the coming months for a press event.
Tom Ford: Tom Ford kicked off New York Fashion Week with a star studded fashion show. The collection was all about this futuristic disco woman and the clothes were definitely something to ogle over. If you are looking for high octane sexy then you would need look no further than this collection. When it comes to seeing Tom Ford on the red carpet we don’t often seen off the runway looks, but I if one were to get snatched up I would want it to be this dusty rose rouched jersey gown which features long sequined sleeves and strong shoulders. This gown is the perfect mesh of Judy Jetson and Diana Ross and I think the incomparable Julianne Moore, who was perched front row at the show, would be the perfect person to bring it to life on a red carpet.
Viktor & Rolf: Last on this list is this beautiful look from the launch of the Viktor & Rolf Soir line. It was presented quietly in a showroom by appointment only and showcased beautiful ready to wear evening and cocktail look. Back in 2015 Viktor & Rolf quit the ready-to-wear business to focus on their couture line and bridal lines. I always enjoyed seeing Viktor & Rolf’s ready-to-wear shows and I think that the return with a small collection of evening wear was a great choice. There were many beautiful options for me to choose for the spot on this list, but this ensemble which features a pink sculpted bow embellished bustier and a pair of black flared tuxedo pants was definitely my favorite. I love how it was masculine on the bottom but so very sugary feminine on the top and I know that it would look perfect on Naomie Harris.
