The West End in London is the European answer to Broadway, and they have their set of theater awards just like Broadway. The Olivier Awards are the English equivalent of the Tony Awards honoring the best of British theater and usually brings a good red carpet. Former Glee star Amber Riley took to the stage in London this past year in a West End revival of Dreamgirls playing the iconic role of Effie White, which has been an award winning role for both Jennifer Holiday and Jennifer Hudson. Amber’s performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Musical at the 2017 Olivier Awards. I wonder if she will have the same luck as her predecessors and will take home the Olivier Award, I guess we will just have to wait until Sunday night (April 9) to find out. I hope that when she steps out on the red carpet that Amber does so in a look that really brings glamour and drama. As a woman with curves there are just a few big labels that would dress Amber, and I went to the king of inclusion dressing for her Olivier Awards gown. I think that this sheer black Christian Siriano Fall 2017 RTW ball gown which features subtle metallic embroidery would be an absolutely gorgeous major moment for Amber to wear on the red carpet. The gown is glamorous, dark, and moody which I think would just be enhanced by Amber’s diva confidence on the Olivier Awards red carpet. Styling this gown with a romantic updo, smokey eye, red lip, and a pair of simple black sandals would really turn this into something absolutely gorgeous for Amber. I have a feeling that Best Actress in a Musical nominee Glenn Close will not be in attendance at this years Olivier Awards. Glenn is nominated for her role in Sunset Boulevard, which she has moved to Broadway following the run in the West End and is expected to perform her normal show on Sunday. Thinking about that and the Tony Awards looming, I went back and forth on whether to even feature Glenn on this list. I decided to air on the side of caution and put a wish out there. Maybe Glenn will make the jaunt across the pond, who actually knows. If she does I think that Glenn would look ever so chic walking the red carpet wearing this anthracite grey Zac Posen Fall 2017 jacquard gown which features an off the shoulder neckline, draped bodice and sleeves, and a column full length skirt with a ruffle design at the front. Zac has dressed Glenn several times, including for two Academy Awards, so I feel like that this is a pretty solid wish. I think that this gown would look elegant, sophisticated, and regal on Glenn who always delvers classic, strong looks on the red carpet. Simple styling and a whole lot of presence would turn this into an absolutely gorgeous red carpet moment.  Ruth Wilson is the one who I am most excited to see on the red carpet at the Olivier Awards this weekend. If anyone is going to bring the high fashion factor to the red carpet it is going to be Ruth. Nominated for Best Actress thanks to her role in the stage play Hedda Gabler I can’t wait to see what Ruth will bring. Now you might be scratching your head at my decision to pick this look from the Monse Fall 2017 RTW collection for Ruth to wear, but I have a vision. I would love to see go for something unexpected and bold by taking this bright canary yellow Monse top which features a bateau neckline, a tie detail at the waist, and a high-low hem and have her friends (and Monse creative directors) Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim turn it into a gown with a dramatic train. I love the full runway look, but I can also picture this top and a stunning gown. As the runway look it has Best Dressed of the Month potential, but as a gown I picture this as a Best Dressed of the Year worthy moment. Elevating the gown with a chic loose updo, lined eye, red lip, gold sandals, and a pair of yellow diamond drop earrings would just ensure that this is the WOW moment that I want it to be.
